When buying a house, there are certain red flags that must be watched out for as you search through the various, local houses for sale. Here are just a few particular ones you need to keep your eye out for.
A Mass Exodus.
Sure, a house might look nice, as might the entire neighborhood, but if you notice that there are a ton of homes for sale there, watch out. Why would you want to move in to a neighborhood where everyone’s leaving? Now, this doesn’t mean you should turn around and walk away, but you would definitely be wise to ask a neighbor why people are leaving.
A Single Painted Wall.
Chances are that many of the homes for sale will have been renovated or improved upon to increase the property value, and make them more attractive to buyers. As you check out these various homes for sale, and see that only one wall of a room has been painted in any of the houses, take that as a bad sign. Some sellers may try to use paint to cover up bigger problems, like water damage, mildew, or mold. Of course, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re doing that, though it is a sign to be cautious, and all the more reason to bring in a home inspector if you’re thinking about buying the place.

Chances are you don’t need to be told that if a home for sale locally has a bug problem, that you should probably reconsider buying it. What you should know, though, is that as you look at all the different homes for sale around, you need to keep an eye out for any signs of a pest problem. Not only would it be gross to have a house full of termites, cockroaches, or mice, it would also be expensive. You’ll have to pay for all the damage they’ve done, which may include harm to your electrical system, an issue that can cost you a lot in the end.
